Alphatron JMA-609 River Radar Set — Refurbished

The Alphatron JMA-609 is a river radar set for inland navigation, tested and refurbished where needed.

Overview

The JMA-609 is built around an 18.1″ colour LCD with 1280 x 1024 pixel resolution, giving a radar picture of 250 mm or more in diameter as required for inland radar navigation. Digital signal processing suppresses rain and sea clutter while keeping small targets — buoys, dinghies, timber — visible at short range, and AIS target data can be shown directly on the radar picture, which was well ahead of its time when the set was introduced in 2004. Bearing and range are measured with the cursor, fixed and variable range markers and the electronic bearing line. More than 2000 units have been placed in service, so parts, knowledge and antennas are widely available.

The JMA-609 was succeeded by the JMA-610 and later the JMR-611. Sets are interchangeable at the antenna and cabling level in many installations, which keeps a 609 practical to maintain and extend.
