Overview

NAVTEX carries the maritime safety information a bridge is required to keep watch on: navigational warnings, meteorological warnings and forecasts, and search and rescue messages. The NX-700 receives on two channels simultaneously — 518 kHz for the international English-language service and a second channel selectable at 490 kHz or 4209.5 kHz for national or local broadcasts — so a vessel does not have to choose between the two. Messages are shown on a 5" monochrome LCD, with storage for up to 200 messages across both channels, and can be filtered by station and message category so only relevant traffic is presented. The receiver complies with the NAVTEX performance standard MSC.148(77) and runs on 12-24 VDC.

The NX-700 comes in two versions that share the same receiver: the NX-700A with a built-in printer and the NX-700B with LCD presentation and an output for an external serial printer. Both are common fits on merchant and fishing vessels.
