The Hemisphere Crescent VS110 is a two-antenna GPS compass that delivers heading as well as position, tested and working.

Overview

The VS110 computes heading by processing the signals from two separate antennas in a single receiver, which gives a heading reference that does not drift like a magnetic compass and does not need the settling time of a gyro. Heading accuracy is in the order of 0.1 degrees, with pitch or roll available from the same antenna pair, and positioning to around 60 cm with differential corrections. Hemisphere’s COAST technology keeps sub-metre positioning for 40 minutes or more after the differential signal is lost, and an integrated gyro carries heading for up to three minutes if GPS reception drops away entirely. The VS110 includes a dual-channel radio beacon receiver that can be tuned manually, automatically or from its station database in line with IEC 61108-4. It is used for machine control and marine navigation, including dredging and hydrographic survey work.
