A Radio Zeeland RZ-630 rate of turn gyro, tested and in good condition.
Overview
The gyro is the sensor behind the rate of turn indicator and the autopilot: it measures how fast the vessel is swinging and feeds that signal to the instruments in the wheelhouse. When a rate of turn indicator becomes unsteady or an autopilot starts hunting, the gyro is usually where the trouble lies, and it is replaced rather than repaired. The RZ-630 suits a broad range of Radio Zeeland installations, which makes it one of the more useful spares to have identified before it is needed.
